Impressed by our pioneering initiative to implement rainwater harvesting systems in aging government buildings across Kanpur, a renowned multinational corporation came forward to support and strengthen our efforts. The collaboration began after we presented our vision and model at the CSR District Meeting, where our objective was not only to conserve water but also to demonstrate a practical and scalable solution that could inspire citizens, institutions, and government departments to adopt sustainable water management practices.
As a result of this partnership, our first major rainwater harvesting project was successfully completed at the District Industries Centre (DIC) Office, Kanpur. The project involved the scientific collection, filtration, and recharge of rainwater into underground aquifers, helping to reduce water wastage and improve groundwater levels in the area. Beyond its environmental impact, the project serves as a live demonstration site, showcasing how existing infrastructure can be transformed into sustainable, water-efficient facilities with minimal modifications.
The initiative has significantly contributed to groundwater recharge and water conservation efforts in the region. To date, approximately 1.6 million liters (16 lakh liters) of rainwater have been successfully replenished into the underground reservoir, helping restore depleted water tables and promoting long-term water security. Encouraged by these results, the project has become a model for future rainwater harvesting initiatives in public institutions, reinforcing the importance of collective action in addressing growing water scarcity challenges.
This successful collaboration highlights the power of partnerships between civil society, government, and the corporate sector in creating sustainable solutions for environmental conservation and community welfare.
